Z33 and Regionaal Landschap Kempen en Maasland (RLKM) have jointly realised Art on the Meuse: a large-scale art project in the Meuse Valley River Park. Since its launch in 2021, it has gradually developed into a unique art trail along the River Meuse. This summer marks the completion of the project. The Meuse Valley is in a state of constant flux due to gravel extraction, nature conservation, climate adaptation and the capricious nature of the river itself. Art on the Meuse takes this constant flux as its starting point and invites artists to imbue the environment with new meanings.Artists from Belgium and abroad drew inspiration from the stories of this ever-changing landscape and its inhabitants. Over the years, this has resulted in a series of temporary and permanent artworks, six of which are on permanent display in the Meuse Valley River Park. Thanks to the input of local residents, artists such as Mark Dion, Germaine Kruip, Laure Prouvost, Adrien Tirtiaux, Jennifer Tee and Koen Vanmechelen have created works that grow out of their surroundings. From billboards to monumental sculptures in the landscape: each work tells a unique story about the relationship between people and the Meuse. The exhibition takes you through the creation of the artworks, using photographs, videos, original sketches and design drawings. The temporary artworks are also highlighted once again.
